Formed in 1981 in Braintree, Massachusetts by founder Chris Doherty, Gang Green emerged as one of the most ferocious and influential names in American hardcore punk, alongside Boston innovators such as SS Decontrol, Jerry’s Kids, The Freeze, and the FU’s.
Through their inclusion on the seminal Boston Not L.A. compilation, Gang Green’s loud, fast, and unapologetically degenerate sound spread like wildfire through the underground, helping define the sound and attitude of early ’80s hardcore.
With the release of their debut full-length Another Wasted Night in 1985, the band cemented their place in punk history, blending raw Boston hardcore with the speed and aggression that would later influence skate and crossover scenes worldwide.
By 1987, Doherty had assembled a new lineup and signed with Roadrunner Records, releasing the thrash-tinged You Got It, which propelled Gang Green onto the international stage and solidified their reputation as pioneers of skate-thrash punk.
Across multiple eras and lineups, Gang Green has continued to evolve while maintaining their unmistakable identity — earning them enduring legendary status more than four decades after their inception.
